Principal

Deanne started Planet Communications in 2004 with a handful of life-science clients who couldn’t find what they were looking for anywhere else. Too small to command attention at a big agency, they nevertheless had stories big enough to merit the attention of the world.

But how to get there?

Deanne has always had a knack for finding the story, making it clear and compelling to the public—even when the science is complicated. From her very first media pitch letters (ask her, she’ll tell you about them), she’s been getting the right kind of attention for small (and not-so-small) companies in the right places—reaching investors, clinicians, industry and patients.

Deanne’s DNA of communications starts with an exploration of who you are, what makes you unique, immediate and indelible. She delves into the science, mixes it with key company messages and character, and builds the vital blueprint from which all public-facing communications will flow—particularly to the media. This is the essence of what she does. It worked for those very first clients—who were with her for many years. And it will work for you.

And who is she? A twenty-five-year plus strategic media communications professional, who’s focused on life science and biotech publicly-traded and private companies since the 90’s. She worked at the Financial Relations Board, where she developed and executed media programs for public companies in biotech, medical devices and diagnostics, and was a Vice President, Media Relations, at the investor relations firm, Breakstone & Ruth. All along, she’s generated top-tier media coverage, from CNN to the Wall Street Journal, NPR and Forbes, as well as in key trade publications, with her inventive approach, clear scientific exposition, and flair for finding an angle. She’s also developed a specialty in creating and executing US-media programs for foreign life science companies, both pharma and diagnostics, that are seeking to raise their visibility in the US.

Deanne received a B.A. from Whitman College, in Walla Walla, WA, in Political Science and Religion, and an M.A. in International Relations from The Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies, in Washington, DC.
